The construction of our harbour has a number of components. We will explain each component separately. The location of the components can be found in the item Hemmeland.

Why do we need new jetties?

Because we have to move and the harbour will soon only be accessible from the Hemmeland location.

What do they look like?

We opt for a hybrid layout. The Hemmeland A and B remain and the Waterland A and B partly. The other jetties are replaced by floating jetties. For this we make a wide main pier with side jetties. All floating jetties get long and stable finger piers. This way there is a choice for everyone: floating with finger piers or fixed with back posts.

How long and wide are the finger piers?

The new jetties have finger piers that are 80% of the boat’s length. What will be added?

  • Jetties 4 and 5 (odd) have 8-meter narrow piers on both sides.
  • Jetties 5 (even), 6, and 7 (odd) have 8-meter long finger piers, which are 60 cm wide.
  • Jetties 7 (even), 8, and 9 (odd) have 10-meter long finger piers, which are 80 cm wide.
  • Jetties 9 (even) have 12-meter long finger piers, which are 80 cm wide.

Why floating?

To keep up with the ever-changing water level. The jetties will be made of concrete and 2.4 to 3m wide and the sections will be 20m long. They will be coupled on site. You won’t find them more stable anywhere.

Why not replace it all?

The Hemmeland A and B will remain and the Waterland A and B are still in good condition. Replacing them would be a waste and would not create more space. We also hear from a number of customers that they value the traditional jetties. This way, there is a choice for everyone: floating with finger piers or fixed with back posts.

Why a main pier and not the current layout?

A main pier provides a beautiful central view, from there you can walk straight to the harbour building. The pier will be 6m wide and also offers the opportunity to meet each other. In addition, a pier is easier to close in the evening so that unauthorized persons have less access.

Do I have to walk endlessly?

The harbour is now large and will remain large and the layout makes distances large. But thanks to the wide main pier it quickly feels like you have solid ground under your feet. The furthest places are a bit further than now, but for many moorings the difference in distance is small.

Will all jetties retain their current names?

No. There will be a total of 11 jetties next season, and they will all be renamed. We’ve chosen numbers for each jetty. Hemmeland A will become jetty 1, Hemmeland B jetty 2, the main pier jetty 3, and jetties 4 through 9 are the new floating jetties. Waterland B will be jetty 10, and Waterland A jetty 11. A quick reference: facing north, the hours are based on the clock. If a jetty has moorings on both sides, the left side is odd and the right side is even.

When will I hear which mooring has been reserved for my boat for 2026?

From March through mid-September, it was possible to indicate a preference for a spot in the new harbour via the website. Everyone who submitted this request received a message mid September. If you did not enter a request, you will hear where your (new) berth will be before end of December.

Will Hemmeland A and B also be renovated?

These jetties are still structurally sound and will remain in the new layout; they will be numbered 1 and 2. The electrical system will be completely replaced this winter. We will also replace the woodwork eventually. Anyone moored on jetty 1 (especially on the outside) will soon notice the effects of the breakwater.

How long will the connecting jetty remain?

The connecting jetty is no longer there. Because the jetties in this part of the harbor are making way for the new one, the jetty was removed in early November.

What’s the status of the new jetties?

The jetties are currently being produced at the factory near Gothenburg, Sweden. They are scheduled to be shipped to Amsterdam and their final destination, Monnickendam, in January. They will then be connected, the poles will be installed to hold them in place, and Seijsener will connect the electricity and water.

How do you make room for the new jetties?

Over the winter, we brought all the boats together on the remaining jetties. The winter storage facility at Waterland has over 220 boats on the dry this winter. It was a major undertaking, and the photos alongside show how the harbour was ready for the work in just 11 days.

Helpful Facts

The main pier will have a dry fire line. The fire department can connect to this line near the shore, making water available very quickly at three locations on the main pier. This will significantly reduce the need for hoses, allowing firefighters to fight a fire more quickly. The entrance will also have an SOS system, so that the barrier will automatically open for emergency services in the event of an emergency. A safe feeling!
